Now is the time to purchase and plant your camellias. With the sasanquas in full flower now and for the next few months and the japonicas due to start flowering soon this is an excellent time of year to enjoy camellias. Take the oppertunity in the cooler autumn weather to plant camellias in the ground or in larger pots, it's the best time of year to do so!

Propagation has finished for another year and our hothouse is now full to capacity. We propagate via a method of vegetative reproduction known as striking which involves the taking of cuttings of newly hardened growth and placing them in a medium of peat moss and perlite with a small amount of rooting hormone. This produces an identical clone of the parent plant that in 3 years time will be roughly 1m tall and ready for sale in a 175mm pot. We've done approximately 650 trays, thats close to 100,000 plants, including several new varieties for us!

Christmas has come and gone and another year is upon us. We’ve been back for several weeks now propagating cuttings like mad, as we do in January. The nursery display centre and teahouse is almost complete, the plants are in place and the building is 90% done. With all the recent rainfall in Sydney our camellias have excellent new growth and plenty of buds which are beginning to swell. An early 'Pure Silk' flower was found today, the first for the year. Should be a good season!
